The Dartmouth Stroke Support Club is a self-help group of citizens from the Greater Dartmouth area, including stroke survivors, caregivers and volunteers. The club and its members offer encouragement, moral support and hope for both stroke persons and the families and friends of stroke survivors.

Membership now costs just $10 per year, either in one payment  or $5 in September, $5 in January . Each member will get a membership card, with a record of dues payments on the reverse.

Benefits include:
  • You will associate with others who share your worries about having to adapt to a completely changed life style.
  • You’ll be pleasantly surprised how others have coped with and adjusted to the new restrictions to their freedom.
  • You’ll be able to participate in a 30-minute exercise session at each meeting, led by our physiotherapist Janet Millar (27 years with our club).
  • Exercises are paced by live music from very competent volunteer musicians. Janet’s lively and joyous personality meshes to perfection with them and their music. You’ll enjoy the spirit!
  • All members are welcome to the lunch which follows, prepared and served by more volunteers and caregivers.
  • You’ll make many new friends.
We're providing some additional services for our members in 2008-2009:
  • sing-alongs preceeding exercise session
  • speech therapy;
  • occasional talks by medical experts about the progress of stroke treatment around our province.
  • Computer one-on-one Instruction beginning in March for those wishing it.
