Song leader Brian Vandervaart, ably supported by both the voice and guitar of Don Sketchley, Brian's cohort,  leads a group sing-song at the beginning of every meeting. The enjoyment this brings is evident in the smiling faces of all the participants.

One highlight of every meeting is the group exercise session, led with great vigor and enthusiasm by Janet Millar, to the cheerful musical background provided by the musicians Edgil, Steve, Mac, Sam & Lorne, who faithfully attend on a weekly basis.

After the session, Pam Matthews and her volunteer kitchen elves work their magic in producing a tasty, yet heart-healthy, lunch, which our eager members cause to disappear in short order.

Meetings are weekly each Wednesday, September through to June, 1pm-3pm, (except 12:30 to 3:00 for Potluck days) at the Findlay Community Centre, 26 Elliott St in Dartmouth. The Findlay Community Centre is wheelchair accessible, close to bus routes and has free parking.

A schedule of special meetings is listed below:

The new 2009-2010 club year begins September 16

            physio practice

            Practice 2
Above are pictures of the physio practicing, led by Janet Millar and Sue Ehler, at the Oct. 22-09 meeting

Janet Millar 1:30 to 2.00 is the group physio time with club physiotherapist Janet Millar leading  the members in exercises to the pacing rhythm provided by the cheery musicians who contribute their time and skill on a voluntary basis.   At 2.00, Janet works one-on-one with members who have special physical  problems, while t
he rest of the members eagerly tackle the lunch which the kitchen volunteers have prepared.

The painting group started  by Eleanor O'Brien began again, after a brief lapse, and prior to last meeting featured a display of the latst examples of the class's work. The painting class was a worthy undertaking, for which  all participants thank Eleanor  for organizing and leading this successful endeavour.  For those who took advantage of its availability, it was a  valuable mental stimulus to their creative talents, and we hope it will be posible to continue it next tear.

Kathy Fifield is planning to continue with a club newsletter, probably monthly, about mid-month.

After the lunch, there may be other activities such as bingo or arranged speakers. -(Check here for weekly updates for any special items or presentations planned for next meeting.)

Helma Osmond, our kind speech therapist volunteer, provides on-going help for members with speech problems.
